The Phone Batman Would Carry
- April 29, 2009
Don't be fooled by some of the low ratings, this phone is the bomb. Some may have gotten a dud, but this is the best all around phone I've owned. Remember gang, this is 2009 and this phone came out 3 years ago. Alot has happened in three years. I've yet to find one that does what this phone does and is as rugged and durable as this one is, and I've looked. If there was something "better" not just "newer", I'd own it. I had the 7400 for years until this model came out. It's a phone gang...it's not a PDA or any of the latest and greatest touch things out there. But it does have in addition to a phone, a camera, a video camera, ready link, Sprint TV, MicroSD storage and more. And a ringer you can really hear. Also the video camera's light has doubled as a very good flashlight more times than I can remember. Numbers are big enough to press easy and screen is easy to read. Battery life isn't what it used to be, then again, it's 3 years old. It's been dropped and banged around and gotten wet more times than I can remember and it's still going strong. And it never fails, finally find a great model, and they replace it. It's just business because most people don't care about good value/quality, it's about the latest and greatest. Hope they accidentally make another good value/quality phone to suit my needs before this one quits.

Abosolutly Ridiculous!
- March 31, 2009
This phone is absolutly Ridiculous. when i first got it i loved it. Everything was working fine, but every once in a while it would freeze up on me. so i was getting a little frustrated after it happened more and more frequently and i had to take out the battery every 5 minutes to keep it working. My sprint store in town is not a service center, and just my luck the day before i take it to an actual service center i fall on the stupid thing, it gets some scratches, and they tell me its physical abuse thats causing the freezes. so they give me a new one, after i pay for abuse, of course, and then i get another one. same kind.. and wouldnt you know, it was fine, and now the screen keeps turning white, and to get it back i have to pop out the battery. overall.. this phone is great, till the second month, then it starts to suck. i dont reccommend getting it.

still great phone!
- March 10, 2009
Its been 2 yrs since I got this phone and I STILL LOVE IT! It is the best phone I've had and I've had many with different phone companies like Alltell, Celular one, etc,. This phone is really great and I think it is a shame that Sprint does not make it anymore. I am about to get a new phone and renew my contract with Sprint and I find it really hard to get a different phone. Unfortunately mine is old and thanks to a few falls I could use a new one now. But if Sprint still had it I WOULD BUY IT AGAIN!!!!!!!

Very durable phone
- February 1, 2009
Bought the Sanyo 8400 when it first came out, was actually my first Sprint phone when I joined them. To this day, the phone has yet to let me down. I've tried other Sprint phones (including PDA's) but I still find myself switching back to my Sanyo 8400 from time to time.
It's been dropped several times, it keeps kicking. In areas where reception was bad on my Instinct or Touch Diamond, the Sanyo 8400 proved itself ocne again, picking up an extra bar that the other two could not.
The sanyo 8400 is also "3g" so just about anything you can do on your Razr2 or other powervision phone, can also be done on this one. That includes downloading the latest games and apps from the Sprint Digital Lounge.
Sure it's not as fancy as some of the newer phones, but for a phone at least, it gets the job more than done. Sprint TV actually looks BETTER on my sanyo 8400 than it did on my Instinct!
While Sprint has officially discontinued the sanyo 8400 you can still find them on the cheap on ebay. I bought one for $35 shipped just as a spare. That one has also been dropped - and it keeps kicking not knowing when to give up. Try dropping your Instinct or Diamond and see what happens!
Excellent phone especially for durability and reception!

I like it...
- January 24, 2009
I purchased the 8400 over two years ago, just to use as a phone to converse, nothing more. I don't need all the bells and whistles. I am very well pleased with it. It is now a bulky antique in today's market of slim size cellphones.
I am very well pleased with the battery life and reception, and speaker phone too. I have no complaints.
I like the Sanyo brand as it always given me very good reception on Sprint towers. I have traveled all over the USA with the 8400. No problems with reception, receiving or sending.

The only reason this will get a rating higher than 3 is because of the battery life and look and feel. i was realty upset that the phone did not do half of the things sprint claimed it to do. The upload speed was horrible the apps are not good either. sprint has to step up if they want to continue to compete with other wireless companies in the future, evrything is too slow. Also sending pics to non sprint users not good for the people trying to recieve the pics. Overall sprint needs to change there operating system it is outdated.

I find that is hard to work with . along with bad ringtones and screensavers. But of corse you can buy them all day long . NOT the need if you need both hand to do somthing else . Looks nice . I guess my biggest complaint is the ringtones and screensavers . I need to break out the book on this one to figure out how everything really works. That not something I usually have to do . This phone doesn't come natural at this time .

The perfect "phone" phone
- June 25, 2008
The Sanyo SCP-8400 is the perfect "phone" phone. By that I mean it is a excellent phone first and a communication device second. Basic phone functions are performed very well. Calls are loud and clear. Reception is very good and it even gets a strong signal in my house which all my other Sprint phones failed to do. Dropped calls are the exception now instead of the norm. Battery life is amazing. On light days it can go 3-4 days between charges. On heavy talk days I have never run out of battery. Build quality is excellent. The reassuring snap when you open and close is part of it unassuming charm. The main screen is big, bright, and high resolution.
On top of being a great phone it also packs plenty of useful extras. The included USB cable and Mini-SD card were unexpected but much appreciated. These two things allow you to transfer photos, videos, and voice recordings to/from any computer. Photos taken with my Canon make much better wallpapers than the camera phone photos. You can even sync the phone book with a PIM with a few tweaks (http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=115350)
If you sign up for a data plan then you get to surf the net on Sprint's faster EVDO network. This is a huge improvement over their first data network. The internet is actually usable at this speed. Download Opera Mini and you will have an excellent portable internet device.
The few downsides:
1. The look is clearly dated and utilitarian. You are not going to showing this off at any parties.
2. The external antenna is clunky but I am assuming this is partly responsible for the great reception.
3. You cannot upload your own ringtones. You have to buy them from Sprint. I believe it was Sprint and not Sanyo that added this handicap.
4. Synchronizing your contact list with your PIM is not included with the software. You have to figure it out on your own. It's worth the effort though.
This is my first Sanyo phone after being with Sprint for 10 years. I can say for sure that Sanyo will be at the top of my shopping list next time.

SANYO 8400--BEST PHONE YET!
- June 17, 2008
Awesome phone! Had it almost 2 years. Been with Sprint almost 7. Best phone yet! Reliable reception, battery is normally still full at end of day after all day of usage and using features. Great features! Love the memory card, music and voice recorder feature. The voice recorder came in perfect for a job I did. Just an all around great phone! Will never buy anything but Sanyo again!

I Miss My LG
- June 16, 2008
The battery life on this phone does not hold long and once it starts to show depletion it is gone within two calls.
The sound is not very loud even on it's loudest settings.
I do not get a very good reception and most times, and poor reception when inside.
I have yet to find a way to transfer my photos on to my computer. It did not come with anything to do the transfering.
The style and colors are nice and it might work better in areas with smaller populations.

It's a Good phone to use.
- June 9, 2008
I have really no problems with this phone, battery life is excellent, the look of the phone is cool and features work well. My only problem I guess I would say is that the photo's picture quality is not so good, specially if it's a night or dark photo i take. A bit blurry at night but during the day it's ok but that not saying much. I've seen much better on other phones. So i guess for Picture quality 1-10 i give it a 5, and the rest a 9.
For Price Value, it's fine for what it is I guess, but wouldn't we all like to pay less for some we want.
