BEST PHONE EVER!

I've had my Champagne Katana for 4 yrs. The finish is wearing off, it's been wet, dropped and lost in my purse. But this is THEE best phone I've ever had. No issues whatsoever!! After 4 yrs the bat is finally going, so I'm starting to look elsewhere. But even with the bat going, it still gives me every second it can wring out of itself! Wish Sanyo would come out with another one. IN RED this time... I just do not want to part with it, period!

Great Phone

I've had nothing other than Sanyo Phones from Sprint.
I wouldn't get any other model or service...my Pink Katana DLX is a fabulous phone that holds many photos and I love the fact that all my buttons on the keypad glow!

I know this is an outdated review, but I absolutely loved this phone! Yes, it doesn't have GPS or a full keyboard or a touch-screen, and using the web on it is frustrating, but I absolutely adored this phone. It was durable, it lasted me two years and kept on going without any problems. I only ever had to take it into repairs once, and it was a bad charger, not the phone itself. I could get signal almost anywhere, and had no complaints with this phone.

Best phone I ever had...

I would buy this phone again if it were to come available. It is easy to use, reliable, and just the right size. Camera is great, call quality is wonderful, and it is just the best basic phone I ever owned. Sometimes some of us just want a basic reliable phone. This was the greatest! Plus it looked good and felt good.

I got the very first Katana in 2006 when it came out and just replace it today cuz i needed a change. I never had any problems with the phone even with dropping it several times. It always did what I needed it to do. The only downfall was the downloaded ringers were not very loud. Other than that I loved my Katana but just switched to a Rumor2...lets see how this one compares.

BUYER BEWARE! Terrible phone!

The Katana is an unreliable phone that brings frustration and expenses. My first Katana lasted only 3 months before the listening speaker broke. I had to use speakerphone to hear calls. The second Katana broke only after a year - it freezes and goes black for no reason, won't turn on or shut off, and drops all calls. Too much time and effort trying to fix a phone that is CONSTANTLY braking and failing. I will never buy Sanyo again.

crap phone

This phone really look cool as you can see, but i have had three of them in the past year. One because my buttons started falling off, two because the screen froze up for no reason, and three because the middle button would not work. I am now on my fourth one, and it always goes black and i have to sit there and press buttons, but nothing happens. This phone is crap and i cannot wait to get a new one!!!!

The WORST phone EVER!!!!!!!

I have had a cell phone with sprint for almost ten years. All four of my phones have been SANYO phone and they have all been great... until now! This phone has given me trouble almost from the beginning. It worked great for about three months and now it is such a piece of junk! Constantly dropping calls, terrible reception, data constantly not working, extremely slow and this all started about three months after I got it. The camera takes the worst pictures and no matter how much light there is they turn out dark. It is a good looking phone, but that is all I can say about it! Don't waste your money!!!

Camera does not have a flash

The camera on this phone takes the worst pictures and there is no flash. I have had Sanyo's before and the pictures were decent, not this one.... and I did not realize there was no flash when i bought it. I also have to return the phone as it appears all of my stored pictures and videos have disappeared and not just the images, but the entire function for viewing/storing videos and pictures have disappeared from the menu.
I also have issues with the phone freezing up if I leave it on the web browser screen. Have to actually remove the battery to get it to shut off, then turn the phone on after replacing the battery.
I really liked the little rubber plugs over all the open slots on the phone, when I got it, as my husband had an issue with holding the phone while running and sweat getting inside the little slots, then the warranty is void because of water damage....however since I have had the phone for a year the little rubber stoppers will not longer stay inside the slots when I am not using them...in fact I have a piece of tape over the little rubber stopper for the memory stick slot to keep it closed...
Probablay would not buy again....

This phone is the best I have ever had. (Cell phones since 1998) The battery lasts a very long time compared to others. (1400Mah Extended life, Lasts 4 days with moderate use) Music player lets user create their own playlist. Speaker is adaquate. Speaker Phone is not great, however, a good headset is better anyway. With the Micro SD, memory is never even thought of. Headset plugs in with a 2.5mm plug. Try to find one of those when you are on the road. 3.5mm would be better. Software recently needed an upgrade. But, so has every phone. Owned this phone for 6 months now. For the first time in 10 years, I don't yearn for a different phone. Good job Sanyo!

I have had this phone for over a year and have never had a problem. It can do anything. It's like having a computer in your pocket. It is great when we go camping because you can check on the weather and news quickly. The battery life is much better than most using the regular battery that came with it. It still looks pretty new because it is a flip phone. I haven't dropped it yet but it is cold and slick. I'm very happy with this phone and would buy it again.

Excellent Phone

I have had this phone for over a year now using it daily. I have had no problems with it whatsoever. The battery may go down one bar after a week of usage, but overall the battery life is very good. I have the PCS Vision package on it so this is with occasional internet usage as well as talk time and texting. I have seen absolutely none of the issues mentioned by others in the reviews. My wife bought a Katana II at the same time and we can say the same for it. No issues whatsoever thus far.
I have a coworker who has a DLX and has had it longer than I have and he has had the same experience I have. No problems at all. Can't really say where the negatives on here are coming from as I have not seen it.

Don't waste your money!!!!

Don't waste your money on this phone!!!! Spend a little more and get something that actually works!!!! While the phone is super cute and comes in a pretty pink, it DOES NOT WORK!!! I have had problems with this phone since day one. I had to spend numerous hours and make 4 seperate trips to the sprint store within the 1st week of having this phone. The thing about it is sprint cannont get the thing to work properly and they will not replace my phone. Very frustrating situation. The issues I have had with this phone are picture mail does not work properly, it freezes constantly, at one time my calendar and schedule was out of sync, the internet is slow, when I am in the middle of a text message it will suddenly disappear and an entirely new text that has long since been deleted from my phone will pop up, etc. Oh and another problem, I am always pinching myself when I try to open my phone in a hurry! Other than that it's cute, just not reliable AT ALL!!!!! I will not recommend this phone to anyone

I had this phone since it first came out All of sudden it just started acting weird people can hear and understand me but I cant them. I took back they updated software still did same thing. Took back again gave new phone same type and this one which is 1 day old is doing same thing.

The problems with the Katana DLX are numerous. My wife and I both bought this model, so it's double the aggravation. For starters, while the phone has many features, accessing them is frustrating at best. The reason being that every other time you try to open one, the phone can't make a connection, or it just freezes. Either way, the only way to get the connection back is to reboot (shut down & start up). That goes for internet access, games, and even picture mail. I have yet to receive picture mail that I could view without it freezing up, requiring the reboot. On the UP side, my wife doesn't even get most of the picture mail I send her, EVEN WHEN WE'RE SITTING NEXT TO EACH OTHER! Games regularly don't make the connection to the system, but I can usually still play them. With the "online" games you can still play "offline" in practice mode; while with the others you just can't record high scores.
I have had the phone turn itself off periodically, even with a full battery, but that problem is not a constant source of frustration.
One other issue is the speakerphone activating when I open the phone to answer a call. That is particularly annoying when I'm in a restaurant or other public place, where the other patrons don't really care to hear my call.
I have checked to see if there are any software updates periodically, but to date have found none. Are these predominately Sanyo issues, or Sprint problems?
Unfortunately we are stuck with these phones for about another year, when our contract is up.

As other users have described - phone was decent in the beginning, but after just 4-6 months many of the features stopped working. The software is crashing fairly often, picture messaging works on occasion, etc. Sprint will "fix" my phone for a $35 fee or for free if i mail it back to them and go without a phone for 2-3 weeks.

This phone was great at the beginning, but as time went on (I've had this just short of a year) everything started having problems. My phone shuts off every now and again for no reason. My picture messaging stopped working...for no reason. And I have a hard time getting/sending messages sometimes. My recipients always complain they get multiple messages of the same, but I would only send them once. I drop calls often for no reason, but that's normal, don't think it's the phone. I hate the way the phone looks, because they had a crappy color selection, but it seemed like a great deal. I would not buy one of these phones again.
